St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University

is the oldest pediatric higher education institution in the world.

 

Historical milestones

 

1925 – the Leningrad Clara Tsetkin Institute for Maternity and Infancy Protection was opened.

1928 – the Institute was reorganized into the Research Institute of Maternal and Infant Health Care.

1932 – on the basis of the Research Institute a higher education institution “Hospital-Medical University” is established.

1935 – “Hospital-Medvuz” is transformed into the Leningrad Pediatric Medical Institute (LPMI). The Institute becomes the first specialized university in the world, where pediatricians are trained from the student’s bench.

1936 – the first graduation took place.

1994 – The Institute received the status of an academy.

2012 – The status of the Academy was changed to University.

2013 – a new building of the Perinatal Center was opened, erected on the site of the old obstetric building.

2024 – the Institute of Infectious Diseases, Clinical Microbiology and Medical Parasitology was established at the University.

 

Activity

 

Today St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University is more than 60 departments, fifty departments, more than 15 thousand modern surgeries and almost 100 thousand satisfied, and most importantly – healthy babies from all over Russia per year.

St. Petersburg pediatricians share their scientific developments and experience with colleagues at the annual All-Russian Congress “Healthy Children – the Future of the Country”. In May 2017, two hundred reports were delivered in 36 different sections and 4 round tables, and more than 2,000 guests from 15 countries took part in scientific discussions.

St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University is bound by partnership and cooperation agreements with leading foreign medical institutions: The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (Houston, USA), Democritus University of Thrace (Alexandroupolis, Greece), Belarusian State Medical University (Minsk), Mkhitar Heratsi Yerevan State Medical University, Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Bukhara Medical University, and Tashkent Pediatric Medical University This allows our students to participate in international exchange programs. Such joint work allows students to raise the level of their knowledge and training, improving themselves in the professional sphere.

 

       

 

Ratings

 

In 2022, the university was included in the International rating “Three Missions of the University”, where it took a position in the range of 801-900.

Also in 2022, it was ranked 63rd in the RAEX rating “100 Best Higher Education Institutions of Russia”, 16th in the RAEX rating of medical universities in Russia and 51st in the RAEX rating of influence of universities in Russia (RAEX), 2022.
